ATVs, also known as quad bikes, are miniature, motorized vehicles that offer an affordable way to traverse rough terrain and off-road tracks. They are driven in the same way that you would ride a motorbike, with the added benefit of extra wheels for stability, typically four although some trikes with three wheels are also available.

Designed to be used for recreational purposes on private land, no driving licence is required to operate an ATV, making them a popular way for Kids and Young Adults to travel and explore the outdoors. If you are concerned about safety there are models designed specifically for under 16’s with less power, bigger brakes and more safety features. Proper instruction and care is still needed with Kids ATVs, but the risks of collision, dismount or flipping the vehicle can be mitigated if you ensure your kids have the proper respect and responsibility for their vehicle, along with the correct safety equipment including a properly fitting helmet.

Another option for kids’ off-roading adventures is a Kids Dirt Bike. Whilst there can be steeper learning curve to master riding a dirt bike, statistically they are safer than an ATV. Kids Dirt Bikes are also lighter making them easier to transport when not being ridden and they can help you your kids get out into the back-country on single-track roads which would not be passable on an ATV. Buying a Kids ATV or Dirt Bike is a wonderful way to encourage their sense of adventure and appreciation of the great outdoors.
